About Rising Tide Boat Works Ltd.

Rising Tide Boat Works (RTBW) is a marine innovation facility that is presently under development on an approximately six-acre foreshore site, in Ucluelet, BC. Our mission is to lower barriers to marine vessel electrification by creating a collaborative space for builders, designers, and makers, while also providing public learning and community programming around electric and hybrid vessels.

At the core of the site is a 16,500 square foot WWII-era hangar that is being restored and repurposed. A quarter of the building will serve as a dedicated shop space, with the remainder housing two 100ft boat bays for recreational and light-commercial electric vessel development, conversion, and maintenance. The original south-facing frontage of the site’s second building, once used for fish processing and cold storage, is being transformed into an office and events facility to support community engagement and industry collaboration.

The site will feature fully electric on-site equipment and machinery, including a newly constructed electric marina with fast-charging infrastructure and a 110t travel lift capable of transporting vessels up to 30 feet wide between land and water.

With the boatyard slated to open to the public in Summer 2028, we are currently focused on raising awareness of active pilot projects, advancing collaboration opportunities, and engaging makers and private-sector partners in the use of our boatyard as a purpose-built, multi-tenant marine innovation facility. Our flexible, shared infrastructure model will enable on-site specialists and hobbyists alike to undertake new vessel builds and conversions. By co-locating innovation, infrastructure, and education, RTBW will grow local capability to design, build, test, and maintain electric-powered vessels and accelerate the transition to EV boating.
