Reporting to the Board of Directors, Wei Wai Kum General Partner, this senior management position is responsible for all aspects of the Discovery Harbour Marina operation ranging from expansion plan implementations and pricing strategies to day-to-day management of the office and docks.  The incumbent takes responsibility for developing and implementing an annual work plan for the Marina.  The position has overall accountability for ensuring a profitable operation and for serious errors associated with inadequate insurance coverage, breaches of policy adherence, customer and staff safety, dock maintenance, security and emergency procedures associated with storm damage and the like. 

The position is expected to develop strong working relationships with municipalities and other external contacts and to effectively orchestrate workflow and personnel according to peak and off seasons.  The incumbent assumes general responsibility for increased sales and a high level of customer service, handling situations personally with VIP clients or with serious complaints.  The incumbent has strong interpersonal, project management, organizational and procedural skills.

Accountabilities

• Regular communication with the Board of Directors and prompt notification of any form of high level incident or errors involving legal, budget, customer service, property damage, safety and staff issues.
• Informed, feasible long term vision of the marina growth and expansion for Board of Directors’ approval.
• Annual work plans and budgets that maximize profitability, enhance customer loyalty and the marina’s reputation.
• Adherence to approved budget and prompt, accurate monthly financial statements for Board of Directors’ review.
• Effective negotiation of all operational requirements, e.g. water lease with provincial government.
• Continual due diligence to ensure the marina is operating in a fiscally responsible manner and that it is protected against legal liability.
• Adequate insurance coverage in all required areas.
• Regulatory compliance of marina operation, visitors and staff with all safety laws and policies, fire codes and any related federal, provincial and municipal government requirements.
• Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws and regulations relating to all work tasks performed at the marina and any associated professional designations, training, certifications, insurance etc. that may be required.
• Successful day-to-day management of the marina office and docks including fee collection, boat placement, conduct and safety of visitors, staff, boats, materials management, office protocols and dock maintenance and appearance.
• Exceptional customer service and professional conduct in all aspects of the marina operation.
• Effective marketing and sales strategies.
• Staff management that promotes teamwork and in accordance with the marina policies, effective management principles as well as with laws associated with employment, human rights, WorkSafe and confidentiality of information.
• Functional office and marina technology, e.g. cash registers, computer server, security and camera system.
• Protection, administration and archiving of the marina’s electronic and paper records and reports.
• Prompt and effective oversight and handling of emergencies, storms and critical incidents, e.g. visitor injuries.

Job Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors’ Degree from a recognized university specializing in Business Management, Finance      or Operations Management.
• VHF Radio Certification
• Basic First Aid Certification
• As career progresses will be required to successfully complete job required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to marina management, workplace safety, first-aid and staff supervision.

Level of Experience

• Ten (10) years of directly-related experience in the majority of specialties listed in the job description including general operations management, project management, logistics, staff supervision and customer service training and / or marina regulations.
• Two (2) years of the above experience must be in a marina management position.
• Experience as an intermediate user of Excel and Word.
• Previous experience working in a First Nations community, preferably with the Campbell River Indian Band.

Equivalent

• An equivalent combination of education and experience that is deemed to be equal to the above requirements may be considered

Hiring Requirements

• Must be able to provide official copies of academic and certification records.
• Must be able to provide three (3) business referrals. Valid references are defined as a direct supervisor who is familiar with the applicant’s work.
• Must pass a comprehensive Criminal Records Check conducive to the position.

Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000
